I understand why some creators, including myself, don't leave #YouTube. However it's vital now more than ever to also make yourself a #PeerTube server. You need an accurate archive of your work that YOU control, even if no one watches it there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrwJgDHJJoE
Verification on Mastodon and the wider Fediverse works differently to most social networks. Symbols like
or β
or the word "verified" are NOT verifications as anyone can add them to their profiles.
Verification on here works through special links on an account's official website. You can find out how to create a verified link in this guide:
β‘
οΈ https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-verify-my-account
For example we know @wikipedia@wikis.world is official as their profile has a verified link to their website.

p.s. If an account from another server doesn't seem to verify on your server straight away, give it some time (for example try viewing it a few hours later).
I just tried various accounts like @greenpeace@mastodon.social and @wikipedia@wikis.world which seemed not to verify immediately on my server, but after a while the green tick did appear on my server too.
Each server independently checks the verifications of profiles it notices, and if it's busy it seems to put verification checks in a queue to deal with later.

There's an excellent Masto tip by @JessTheUnstill@infosec.exchange quoted below.
To clarify a bit, you can mute conversations on other people's posts if the posts appear in your notifications. There are two scenarios where this isn't possible and the tip is needed:
- If you follow someone and they reply to a person you also follow, you will see their entire conversation without notifications. This tip lets you hide it.
- If you're seeing the same post boosted many times, you can use this tip to hide it.
p.s. If you want to know how "mute conversation" works normally for conversations where you've been mentioned or participated, here's a guide: https://fedi.tips/muting-conversation-threads-in-mastodon
p.p.s. Thank you to all the people who clarified the scenarios where Jess's tip is needed!

A lesser known Mastodon pro tip:
Want to mute a conversation, but the mute conversation button isn't appearing on the post?
The only way you can mute a conversation is on a post you have made in the conversation.
But the secret part - Say you want to mute it without actually participating in the conversation:
Reply to a post, set the visibility to "Private Mention", remove everyone's username from the post. Post it.
Then you can click "mute conversation" on THAT post, and it silently mutes you from the conversation.

Thank you so much for all the feedback yesterday on the revamp of the Fedi.Garden site!
I've redone the front page again to make it even simpler and clearer, let me know what you think:

Hopefully this makes it easy enough for anyone to sign up, but as always any feedback and suggestions welcome π
Muting and blocking are really important tools on Mastodon. Mutes hide someone from you without them knowing, whereas blocks totally cut off contact with an account and prevent interactions.
To mute or block someone, go to one of their posts or their profile page and click β―, then select "Mute" or "Block".
I've done a guide all about mutes and blocks on Mastodon which answers lots of questions:
