Screenshot of a scam spam with the text "Our automated systems detected irregular activity with your account. To restore visibility and access please complete the verification process. Thank you for your understanding."

Also, the text has been written with weird symbols presumably to avoid being detected by admin filters. 165bd8846daae487.png Screenshot of writing a DM in Mastodon's web interface, there is a warning above the writing box which reads "Posts on Mastodon are not end-to-end encrypted. Do not share any sensitive information over Mastodon." f5c82de1ba31b812.png Screenshot of a scam message viewed through Mastodon, with the message "This is a scam, do not click" overlaid on top of it.

The actual scam message is as follows:

"Hello,

We have temporarily restricted access to your Pixelfed account after detecting unusual activity during a recent image generation session. In addition, your account verification appears to be incomplete.

Unfortunately, the request did not successfully pass our automated security review. ⚠️

Best regards (redacted)" 012f99fff15cbd5d.png Screenshot of an illustration that is apparently being used by scammers to try to fool people into giving their personal details to crooks. The illustration itself says "identity verification required", features a cartoon Mastodon and has various corporate-looking text boxes full of generic phrases which all boil down to "give us your ID if you want to keep your account". These are lies, and I've overlaid the phrase "SCAM! DO NOT CLICK!" in bright red letters on top of the scam illustratoin. 73294d21a1023154.jpg Screenshot of a post on Mastodon where a link to a page from the Fedi.Tips website has been included in the post. Below the preview for this website link, there is a smaller link labelled "More from Fedi.Tips" which goes to the FediTips Mastodon account. 9ccea2685ff70ef3.png Screenshot of two scam posts with the following texts and the word "SCAM" overlaid on top of the screenshots:

An easy and stress-free way of joining Mastodon and the Fediverse

Mastodon (and the wider Fediverse it is part of ⧉) is a non-corporate social network owned and operated by ordinary people and grassroots community groups. Here are the basics:

- To join Mastodon and the Fediverse, you need to sign up on a server.
- Whichever server you sign up on, you can follow people from other servers and they can follow you.
- If you change your mind later, you can move your account to a different server while keeping your follows and followers.

To get started, pick the option that suits you best:

- I want to sign up, please suggest a good server
- I want to choose from the full list of good servers
- I have questions I need answered before I sign up
- I’ve signed up for an account, what do I do next? 65cb6c76ca4613a7.png Screenshot of the "More replies found" dialogue box from Mastodon, which appears when Mastodon has detected more replies to a thread you're currently viewing. Click on "Show" to make those new replies appear. This allows everyone on all servers to see the same view of a discussion thread. 2dbb51c7a8b98637.png Screenshot of a PeerTube channel profile with the icon highlighted which copies the profile's Fediverse address.
