Fedi.GardenThe aim of https://Fedi.Garden is to help people discover small and medium sized servers on Mastodon and the Fediverse.
All of the servers listed comply with the Mastodon Covenant (https://joinmastodon.org/covenant), have fewer than 50,000 members, are open for public signups and block threads.net. They can be any sort of Fediverse server, not just Mastodon.
If you run such an instance, send me a message if you'd like to be listed.
Fedi.GardenBy the way, please do send me a message if you think any of the servers listed on fedi.garden are problematic. If possible, please include direct evidence (links, screenshots etc) rather than rumours.
I check rules and local timelines for red flags before listing, and listed admins all promise to comply with the Mastodon Covenant.
I don't have the resources for formal audits, so reports are really useful.
(I will check any reports, and also check with the admin of the server in question too.)

Fedi.GardenI've updated the front page of the Fedi.Garden website so that it now helps people who get overwhelmed by choice when choosing a Fedi server to sign up on:

The featured server will be rotated regularly to avoid centralisation. It will be from a pool of good general servers.
I don't particularly like featuring specific servers, but if a rotating specific server suggestion makes it easier for new people to sign up then this seems worth trying.

Fedi.GardenRaw numbers are perhaps not enough to get across just how bad the centralisation of the Fediverse by mastodon.social is. I've done a chart to show this visually, hopefully this will make the situation clearer?
Given the circumstances, getting people to join any other server except mastodon.social would greatly help decentralise the Fediverse. It's no longer big vs medium vs small, it's more like supergiant deathstar mastodon.social vs everyone else 😞

Fedi.GardenMastodon's new server software (v4.5.0) brings a breakthrough for smaller servers:
No matter which server you are on, all replies to all discussion threads are automatically fetched as soon as you browse a discussion. It doesn't matter which server you are on or which server they are on, you will all see the same complete discussion. (Unless a user or server is banned of course.)
