If you ever have trouble logging into your Mastodon account, don't panic!
You can always contact your server's admin without logging into Mastodon by sending them an email instead. Your server admin's public email address is displayed on your server's website's "About" page.

Almost all the servers on Mastodon and the wider Fediverse are run by unpaid grassroots volunteers that pay their server's bills out of their own pockets.
They don't sell your data or carry advertising, and they don't get any share of the donations given to the Mastodon etc software developers.
Please consider donating to your server admin, they usually have donation links on your server website's "About" page. You can also ask your admin directly about how to donate.

This is how servers work on here:
You sign up on a server, your account only works on that server.
However, the servers talk to each other so you can seamlessly follow and interact with people from other servers as if it's all one giant network. For example you are on a different server to me, but you see this post and can reply, share, like etc.
It's like how phones let you call people on different operators.

If you want to log in on a Pixelfed server, you need a Pixelfed account on that server. You cannot sign in on a Pixelfed server with a Mastodon account.
There is a button labelled "Sign in with Mastodon" on Pixelfed but it does not do what it claims to do. Every time you use this button, it creates a new totally separate Pixelfed account using info from your Mastodon profile.

Mastodon servers running the experimental ("nightly") version of Mastodon may have quote-tooting now active.
If it is active, it should work by clicking a post's boost 🔁
button, which offers the option to quote if the account has opted into quoting.
Don't worry if it's not yet active for you, this is just on experimental Mastodon as the feature is still being tested.
Quoting will be released in the next server software version (v4.5.0).

p.s. Even if your server is running the experimental version of Mastodon, it doesn't seem to be letting all accounts use quoting.
I tried with a test account on mastodon.social and there is no way to quote anything, even when trying to quote accounts that have opted into being quoted.
So, in short, please don't have FOMO because it is not really released yet.
