Most hashtags are pretty obvious, you just put # in front of a topic. For example if a post is about coffee it might have the tag #Coffee
However, many popular hashtags have difficult-to-guess names, so I've started a list to help people discover them:

Copy-paste a hashtag into the search box in Mastodon if you want to browse or follow it.
If you have suggestions for non-obvious hashtags that should be added to the list, let me know in the replies ๐
#FediTips

There are several #hashtags that celebrate wetlands in specific months:
#Fenuary (fens/February)
#MarshMadness (marshes/March)
#Swamptember (swamps/September)
#Bogtober (bogs/October)

For people in Ireland:
#mastodaoine #mastodonie

Great list! I scanned it for all the ones I follow... and you had them all! ๐
@FediTips@social.growyourown.services You have #FediDogs but not #FediCats ? This is an outrage! :P
@FediTips@social.growyourown.services I love how nerdy and specific some of these are
@FediTips@social.growyourown.services
"texlatex" for discussion around LaTeX (the markup language), since just the name overlaps with kink content (since Hashtags don't respect capitalization)
@FediTips@social.growyourown.services I have a suggestion for a non-obvious hashtag that I love to follow
#็นใซๆๅณใใชใใชใ็ซใฎ่จๆธฌ
(Measurement of cats that do not make sense in particular) ๐น
@FediTips@social.growyourown.services
very cool list
@FediTips@social.growyourown.services About hashtags, I think you forgot "FediRadio" (music on Fediverse), and "FediBlog" (blogs on fediverse) - this one mostly used for ActivityPub WordPress federated blogs.
Not to forget "a11y" which stands for "accessibility"; the hashtag comes from old Twitter, where you had 140 character limit at the very beginning. So they simply cut the word "accessibility" with the initial A, then the number 11, then the y, because the word "accessibility" has 11 letter between the beginning and the end. Same concept for internationalization which is "i18n" and localization is "l10n".
@FediTips@social.growyourown.services Where is the #coffee ?
@ainmosni@social.ainmosni.eu
There's #Catstodon ?
If I listed every hashtag for cats it would take up half the list ๐

Thank you, added ๐

This isn't a complete list of hashtags, that would take up several dictionaries.
It's just a list of non-obvious hashtags that people might not know about ๐

๐
Is there any particular reason for this?
@FediTips@social.growyourown.services iPhone added a measuring tool at some point, so people started measuring stuff available... Like their cats ๐น
@FediTips@social.growyourown.services @catsalad@infosec.exchange It is its own reason
