Are you frustrated by blank or outdated profiles on Mastodon?
There are two crucial pull requests still waiting for review on Mastodon's Github which would automatically load latest posts to profiles no matter which server you're on:
ā”
ļø https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/34595
ā”
ļø https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/34597
If you're comfortable using Github, you might want to react to both these PRs to let Masto devs know there is interest in merging them!
(BTW these are by same contributor who did "fetch all replies" update.)
You can pin posts to your Mastodon profile if you are using Mastodon's web interface, Mastodon's web app or a third party Mastodon app:
1. Go to one of your posts which you want to pin
2. Click ⯠on that post
3. Select "Pin"
You can unpin a post by repeating this but selecting "Unpin".
Lots more info about pinning posts on Mastodon at https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-pin-my-posts-on-my-mastodon-profile
The lack of a "Pin" option on the official apps is yet another reason to switch to an alternative: https://fedi.tips/which-apps-can-i-use-should-i-use-the-official-app-or-a-third-party-app

Do you want to discover good video accounts on the Fediverse?
I've just added lots more of them to Fedi.Video, have a look at:
ā”
ļø https://fedi.video
Fedi.Video highlights the best videos on PeerTube by only federating specific channels that meet quality standards rather than entire servers. Every channel federated to Fedi.Video has been manually added by a human, there's no algorithm or AI involvement.
If you run a good PeerTube channel, please get in touch!

Something a bit different today:
I'd like to do a shoutout to writer and accessibility advocate Robert Kingett, who has helped lots of Fediverse projects with accessibility including BookWyrm, GoToSocial, Fedi.Tips and others.
He has done a lot for accessibility on the Fediverse, and I'd strongly recommend sending Robert a donation if you can (I've just done so). His donation links are at:

You can follow him at @WeirdWriter@caneandable.social and his site is https://sightlessscribbles.com
p.s. Just boosted this today as Robert has moved to a new website at https://sightlessscribbles.com/support , I've also updated the address in the original post.
p.p.s. You might want to also check out Robert's latest non-fiction piece about a real life writers' group which had a "tech bro" pushing AI/LLM in it. It's powerful: https://sightlessscribbles.com/the-colonization-of-confidence/

- If you ever forget your Mastodon server's name, you can look it up by searching your email for the word "Mastodon". This will show your sign-up email which includes the name of your server.
- If you ever forget your Mastodon password, go to your Mastodon server's website, click "Sign In" and then "Forgot your password".
- If you have any problems with signing in, contact your server admin via the email address on your server's website. More details at https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-contact-the-people-who-run-my-server-how-do-i-find-out-what-my-servers-rules-are

If you're recommending Mastodon and the wider Fediverse to organisations, friends, family or colleagues, don't worry if they say no. You have done something really important simply by making them aware of it as an option.
Most people and organisations don't immediately try stuff they hear about. Usually they need to hear it mentioned by a few different sources before they actually try it.
By being one of those sources, you're nudging them closer to actually trying it š

Friends of FediMeteo,
in a few weeks FediMeteo will turn one year old.
What better way to celebrate than by adding coverage for a few new countries?
So Iām asking you all: which country would you like to see among the next ones supported?

You can use Mastodon's filters feature to hide posts containing particular words, phrases, hashtags, links or emoji. There's a guide to using it at:
ā”
ļø https://fedi.tips/filtering-your-timeline-to-hide-posts-on-mastodon
If you specifically want to block hashtags:
- Make sure the filter for the tag has the "whole word" option UN-ticked (not ticked). If this is ticked it may not work against tags.
- Don't include the #, just write the tag's word on its own.
- If the tag is a phrase, write it all in one word without spaces.
