Mastodon has two different official web interfaces: single-column (default) and multi-column (advanced).

By default you will see the single column interface, but you can optionally switch over to the Tweetdeck-style multicolumn one if you prefer. This lets you view lots of timelines at once.

There are complete instructions on how to activate it at:

The guide also answers lots of questions about how to use it and customise it.

It's very easy to discover and follow PeerTube accounts & channels from Mastodon:

1. Go to a PeerTube site (e.g.
https://fedi.video )
2. On the account or channel you want to follow, click ⧉. This copies its Fediverse address.
3. Paste the Fediverse address into the search box in Mastodon etc. This makes the profile appear within Mastodon and you can just click "Follow".

p.s. After you follow a PeerTube account or channel, its latest videos will start showing up as posts in your Mastodon etc timeline just like any other post.

You can comment on a video by just replying to the post it showed up in. The replies in Mastodon automatically turn into comments below the video in PeerTube.

You can like a video by just
⭐ favouriting the post it showed up in. The favourites in Mastodon automatically turn into thumbs up on the video in PeerTube.

The Fediverse is far more than just Mastodon, there are also lots of other types of server on here. Many of the accounts you follow and interact with on Mastodon may not actually be on Mastodon themselves!

Here's a list of some popular Fediverse server types, click on a type's name to find out more about it:

For example
@meshe@makertube.net is a video account on a PeerTube server, @Iancylkowski@pixelfed.social is a photo account on a Pixelfed server.

p.s. If you're wondering why you don't hear more about web apps, it's because Apple and Google hate them. Web apps totally bypass Apple and Google app stores.

Apple and Google enjoy controlling and taxing apps, but they have no control over web apps and don't get any money from them.

Apple even tried to stop web apps completely, luckily they had to back off:
https://open-web-advocacy.org/blog/apple-backs-off-killing-web-apps

Web apps are a way of getting apps directly from the people who make them, without big tech getting in the way.

Fedi.Tips

p.p.s. By their web-based design, web apps have much less access to the data stored on your phone. It's much harder to spy on people from web apps.

That's why so many companies try so hard to push you away from their websites and towards their app store apps, because app store apps make it much easier for them to spy on you.

Did you know you can install Fediverse servers' websites as apps on your phone? These "web apps" let you have the most fully-featured versions of Mastodon, PeerTube, Pixelfed etc as apps on your home screen, including notifications, full screen interfaces etc.

It's very easy to install web apps on Android and iPhone/iPad, full instructions in this guide:

Most web apps have more features than app store apps, due to restrictions in app store rules.

If your Mastodon server is being very slow today, it may be due to a DDoS attack on one of the biggest hosting providers.

They are aware of the situation and they're taking action against the attack.

This attack doesn't affect servers running on different hosting providers.

EDIT: Okay, looks like the attack is over, servers seem to be getting back to normal. If you are still having problems ask your server admin, if you are an admin ask your hosting provider.
