it’s all chronological as far as i see so it could just be im awake at different times… snd also i might follow too many accounts and hashtags already…

actually… algorithms might not be such a bad idea as we think because the big players misused them for their own interests…

really making algos that help me see everything that’s important to me would be nice

The problem with algorithms is that it would require the platform to spy on you by keeping track of what you're doing, so there would be a risk to your privacy. It would also allow the platform to manipulate what you're seeing. The idea of not using algorithms is to protect people's privacy and prevent them being manipulated by making it impossible.

Having said that, there are many different ways you can customise your timeline so it's more manageable:

to my understanding this is technically incorrect.

an algorithm can even be a static calculation method and does not necessarily require β€žwatchingβ€œ me.

it could just be β€žfill most of the feed by whatever is posted right now by people the user follows in chronological order, but every 5th post display sprinkle a random post from at least 1h ago to max 10h agoβ€œ
that’s an algorithm.

for that matter, even β€žchronological orderβ€œ is actually an algorithm…

Well, if you specifically want it show stuff important to you personally, that would need to monitor you in some way
πŸ™‚πŸ™‚

In computer science algorithm means almost anything on a computer, but most people don't use the word in that way. They usually use it to mean a feed that moves stuff around, hides stuff or pushes stuff in an opaque way.

haha ok yes i wrote that, but in the context that im apparently missing out on posts of some accounts despite following them, maybe because im online at different times… what is important to me is already marked by what i follow. no further spying necessary ;)

but some reduction of accounts that post excessively and some more of accounts that post rarely, that would be nice snd im sure thats possible in a privacy friendly way.
