Mastodon's verification system is mainly for people and organisations who have their own website. It makes your Mastodon profile's link to your website turn green, proving you are the owner of the site.

Here's how to verify your account:

If you've tried doing this and it didn't work, see the troubleshooting section of the guide ("My website address won’t turn green!") as there are lots of possible ways you might fix it.

@FediTips@social.growyourown.services and for people with a wikipedia account. MediaWiki has the real-me extension that enables users to verify their Fediverse identity with their wikipedia account.

Yup, technically this would work for anyone with an account on a platform that supports the rel=me standard. If you link to your account on such a platform in both directions, it should verify on both ends.

It was supposed to be a universal standard but unfortunately Facebook, Twitter, Google etc refused to co-operate with each other
😞😞 so it was left to open projects like Wikipedia, Mastodon etc to keep it going.
