Yup, technically this would work for anyone with an account on a platform that supports the rel=me standard. If you link to your account on such a platform in both directions, it should verify on both ends.
It was supposed to be a universal standard but unfortunately Facebook, Twitter, Google etc refused to co-operate with each other 😞
so it was left to open projects like Wikipedia, Mastodon etc to keep it going.
