I still can’t get it to come up either in the official Mastodon client app or in DDG as a browser view on mobile.

@DangerousSafe@mastodon.social, I appreciate your good humour about this. I should have added my own Welcome! earlier in our exchanges. I’m personally hoping that we’ll see some Star Trek LEGO vids from you.

I still would like to suggest that if your AltText isn’t viewable on the highly used clients for mobile, then it might be best to find an alternative way to include it.

I’m genuinely curious if anyone is able to see the AltText with a mobile client, and if so, which one(s). This may be something that could/should be flagged to developers.

There is nothing
@DangerousSafe@mastodon.social can do about this because they've already added the alt text.

If you're not able to see the alt text, there must be some kind of software problem on the clients you are using, and it's the developers you need to contact.

My question is whether there is an alternative protocol that
@DangerousSafe@mastodon.social could use to add the video that wouldn’t run into this issue.

I see ALT and GIF tags on videos in the mobile clients for Mastodon, DDG and even Safari on many videos. But this one doesn’t come up.

So, it makes me wonder what the difference is in the way the ALT text is embedded and whether there are any mobile clients where this works or if it’s exclusively available in desktop view.

Hey
@WeirdWriter@caneandable.social do screen readers need an "alt" button on a video to hear the alt text or do they pick it up anyway?

Are you able to hear the alt text on the post at
https://mastodon.social/@DangerousSafe/115567511922604303 for example?

There isn't anything else they can do, they've provided the correct alt text for their post. There is no alternative way they can add it because there is only one alt text field on a post.

The problem seems to be how software is handling the alt text on videos. For example the Mastodon web interface isn't showing an "Alt" button so it is more difficult to view the alt text on mobile devices.
