mtjm@FediTips@social.growyourown.services There is also quoting by pasting the link to the post which Mastodon treats as a quote (which can stay after deleting the link). This allows e.g. replying with a quote of another reply.
I hope there will be more software support for this kind of quotes, they are much more readable than Mastodon's handling of link previews.

You don't have to, and you don't have to be quoted, it's all optional 🙂
Many people find quoting useful beacuse it means people can see the post you're talking about without having to click through, and you can quote stuff without having to use your own character limit on copying what it says.

I'm not a sys admin or developer so I'm not sure how to help directly, but you might want to check the instructions at https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/releases/tag/v4.5.0 and raise this as an issue on the Mastodon Github if there's no existing issue at https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues (I couldn't find an existing issue but I'm not 100% sure what to search for).
