I think it is boosting posts with that hashtag which are visible to it on its home server, but there is no way it can detect hashtags from remote accounts which its server hasn't noticed yet.

So, doing group mentions is a bit clearer and surer because you know it goes to everyone in the group.

It did follow back anyone who followed it. But yeah, other than that it was just what it could see.

My sense is that because it followed back so many accounts across diverse servers, it ended up seeing a large span of servers and posts in English.

Its coverage of posts in other languages was not as good even though it wasn’t exclusively set to English that I could see. I saw a fair number of German posts boosted but almost none in French.

My main concern with a bot that boosts hashtags is people may think they just need to post the hashtag to post to the group. If they're aware that they need to mention the group then that isn't a problem of course 🙂
