So we've put 19 agencies, a total of 1450 federal officers patrolling DC hunting for crime, and since late last week, they've managed ... Drum roll please ... 103 arrests. Total. With zero reason to believe that all those arrests couldn't have also been handled just fine by the DC police....

Like I get that this is a frightening and dangerous escalation of this authoritarian regime. But wow ...

Though I'm kinda terrified that if they don't get enough arrests for actual crimes, they'll just start making up crimes for people to be guilty of to justify their presence.

There have been 103 total arrests, with 43 occurring on Tuesday night — almost double the amount reported on Monday. Zoom out: 19 multi-agency teams are spread across the city as part of the takeover, says the official.1,450 people were patrolling the city on Tuesday night, including 750 D.C. police members and 30 National Guard troops.

Going to
start? There's ample evidence that police have done so for as long as policing has existed -- I just expect that they'll ramp that protocol up. That's why traffic stop-and-searches exist, typically for Driving While Black.

With this having been said, the multi-agency nature of this dumbfuck dragnet is undoubtedly going to bite the administration right back, because this is not the job for which a lot of these people signed up, nor is it one for which many of those agents are
suited. It's the old fungibility problem. Even if they were capable of performing the job in a competent manner, I'll estimate that many of them will be unwilling to do more than the barest minimum.

They're not the high-school dropouts rushing to ICE so that they can beat up on people who aren't lily-white: many of them are career agents, and while that still makes many or most of them supportive of fascism, I can't imagine that they're too happy about
this type.

@theogrin@chaosfem.tw It's the rough equivalent of taking senior software engineers from AWS and putting them to work in the Amazon warehouses. I mean, I guess you COULD, but why the hell WOULD you?
