@selzero@syzito.xyz True Story: I grew up in fairly rural parts of the Midwest. Thankfully, Iowa Public TV introduced Sci-Fi Friday Night a couple years before we moved away from there, so I got to see Red Dwarf every week for a bit. When I went to my first Indian restaurant at age 20 (solo), I saw "vindaloo" on the menu and figured that was what I should order. The spiciness took some adjustment, but it's still my go-to.
For more on IPTV's Sci-Fi Friday Night, there's a fun little fan documentary, which includes video of a membership drive selling, I Am Not Making This Up, Red Dwarf "SMEG HEAD" t-shirts. Iowa was a different place 30 years ago.
