You appear to be confusing the current UK Labour government with socialism. They are not socialists.
Once this point of view is accepted then their attitudes and actions begin to make more sense, if sense is the correct term for utter stupidity.

As hundreds committed the offence of putting ink to cardboard, police moved in

Yvette Cooper "defended the banning of Palestine Action, which she said was based on "strong security advice following serious attacks the group has committed" as well as "plans and ideas for further attacks, the details of which cannot yet be publicly reported due to ongoing legal proceedings"
What plans and ideas might I have that YC might take exception to?
@DoubleTreble@cupoftea.social
Wait, we Americans said it first!
@DoubleTreble@cupoftea.social It's working, lol! Yvette Cooper is now fucked - if she stands her ground she will get criticised for authoritarianism and if she backs down she will be accused of being weak. Nowhere to turn!
Fucking good enough for her, (and the rest of the labour government for that matter), for the way she got them proscribed by including them with two far right terrorist groups....they knew it wouldn't happen otherwise.
Puppets of the pro israel lobby.....โ

@DoubleTreble@cupoftea.social Itโs horrific: add those people to the hundreds already arrested-yet the government claims the jails are full and the courts are overwhelmed. No one arrested at the racist intimidation going on outside places where immigrants are housedโฆโฆ Starmer and his government have lost any hint of decency, morals or respect they may have had. Anyone who remains in the current administration deserves all the opprobrium possible.
@HarriettMB@beige.party
They never did have any decency or morals.
It's Blair's puppet government and he's selling us out to the US fascists.
@DoubleTreble@cupoftea.social
@HarriettMB@beige.party @DoubleTreble@cupoftea.social From what I have seen, the police have arrested all sorts of ordinary people, who are not dangerous, who will get a slap on the wrist by courts, if they ever get there.
The arrests will not make any difference. Except to make people hate the government more. It will not reduce "terrorism" in the country.
But as you say, the people who seem to be up for causing actually trouble, harm to people, damage to property, and spreading terror - i.e. terrorists - are being permitted to get on with it.
@HarriettMB@beige.party @DoubleTreble@cupoftea.social its even more devious what is going on - as its simply not possible to find cells for 474 people, even in London, the vast majority of them would likely have been arrested in the street and then bailed, with only those who couldn't (or wouldn't) verify identity being taken to the custody suites. But all those bailed will have conditions not to attend protests or risk further arrest and charges, creating a wider chilling effect.
As for the racist protestors, I suspect they are being allowed to help build the "hostile environment", possibly with some collusion from "security" staff at the places sheltering immigrants (even even those security don't seem to be actually getting attacked)

I used to think Cooper was one of the good ones!
But I'm starting to think there are no good ones, the vast majority of politicians get tainted in the end ๐

She was brilliant as chair of HASC, but her voting record on immigration always suggested she would be a terrible home secretary. She has exceeded my expectations
