The most frustrating thing to me about the available tooling for learning/translating Chinese is that most of it, including Google Translate, will just totally barf if you give it text which already contains tonal markers.

Have you tried zhongwen.com? It's primarily in traditional but does show you simplified, the downside is it's the same tool I used in college nearly 20 years ago and it definitely feels like it—e.g. copy/pasting characters from the definitions is something I never figured how to do
