stony kark@Dr_Bombay@mstdn.social I’ve been voting in every election I could since 2006 and I think they’re right. There are no parties that represent my beliefs, only one that comes anywhere close. Its best showing ever was second place. I’ll keep voting because imo it’s a civic duty, but no part of me believes it’s going to make my life any better.

Dr_Bombay@aapis@mastodon.world well, I think that’s the thing, though: there is not supposed to be one party that perfectly represent you and your beliefs. getting somewhere close is the system working as intended. It’s called compromise, and we’ve forgotten how to do it.

Governance can involve compromise, but it’s never the “goal” there either. Every party wants to win a majority (some realistically won’t, see most Green parties sadlol) and reshape the region in their image. Compromise gave america Trump, a healthcare system that doesn’t work for anyone, the Gestapo 2.0, even literally Hitler.
