merely rhysI don't generally miss games that use anti-cheat rootkits. They're generally a sort of toxic online game I don't care about at all.
I admit some disappointment that Battlefield 6 will be using one and so won't work on Linux though. Some of my favourite gaming memories ever were from Battlefield 2, and I had a little bit of hope of replicating them with 6.

merely rhysI've awoken with divine inspiration to buy a #coffee machine for my bedside table. A shot of espresso as soon as I wake up sounds perfect to me, especially if I can find one that can be scheduled to act as an alarm clock too.
I'm open to recommendations if anyone has any.
merely rhysThis is the best idea I've ever had.
I opted against any smart/cloud/timer features and got the cheapest pod machine I could find.
I wake up, pop in a pod, and push a button for an espresso shot a minute later. It has a small water tank I refill in my ensuite bathroom, and empty pods are emptied from a little chamber into my bathroom bin (which everyone should have btw — make note, single hetero men).
My bedside drawer is now full of random coffee pods that I grab from blindly each morning.

Raising income tax is fraught with peril. I'm fine with it in principle, but it would break a manifesto promise, make Tory fear mongering seem prescient, and would impact economic activity.
But reforming council tax as suggested here? Hell yes. Council tax is a shit, regressive tax only in place because it sorta works and we've never tried anything better. LVT is better. We should do it immediately.

merely rhysFwiw, I think it's inevitable that taxes are going to have to rise. I'd start with reversing the NI cuts recklessly made by the populist Tories desperately trying to improve their electoral standing, but even that will be seen as a manifesto promise being broken.
The hope would be that this could be done against a backdrop of improved growth, growing wages, and decreasing inflation. I'm not sure we're going to be there by budget season.

merely rhysI truly think the enduring problem with arguing on the internet is that folks take issue with a wild interpretation of what's written that they've made up in their heads rather than the actual words written.
merely rhysI'm notoriously pants at predicting the future, but here's one thing I absolutely believe will come to pass: some time shortly after November 5th 2024, #Musk will seek to offload #Twitter.
I could see it sticking around past January 2025 to see in the inauguration and any political aftermath a la #Jan6th, but I reckon some time in mid-to-late 2025 we'll hear about him looking to sell.
