Lifelong Labour member, always fighting against the Tories and all those who'd prefer we lose.

Enterprise architect, Linux nerd, politico, street photographer, stationery dork. Opposed to the corporate web, deeply pessimistic about the future as democracy, diplomacy, and the rule of law decline, and perpetually cynical.

Sceptic with little tolerance for anti-scientific and anti-intellectual bullshit.

I truly think the enduring problem with arguing on the internet is that folks take issue with a wild interpretation of what's written that they've made up in their heads rather than the actual words written.

I always enjoy it in our public political discourse when someone catches flak for the great sin of telling the truth.

Excellent contribution from Lord Dubs in this too.

Just finished watching Hackers. Now starting Wing Commander.

Not sure why but Matthew Lillard seems to be in my subconscious today.

Curious. I had no idea underground cables were insulated with oil.

I wonder if new cables still are? If so, the Greens may need to factor that into their constant opposition to green energy infrastructure and advocacy for underground cabling so that their countryside/farmer/NIMBY segments don't have to look at pylons.

Ah, no they aren't:

"A spokesperson for ENA said the electricity distribution companies had not used heavy oil in newly laid fluid-filled cables for about 40 years and now used biodegradable substances, solid insulation and sealed cabling."

Blanket the country with nuclear power, lattice these entire islands with electric rail, build a thousand data centres, and surround our waters with enough wind turbines that not even a single mackerel could make it through to our coast and I could get on board with virtually anything.

Also, I'm by no means a single issue voter and I'm pretty content with having to occasionally eat some shit in the name of wider party goals.

But this sort of thing? This is the closest thing I have to a 'single issue' that would dominate my political thinking. I'm generally on board with most of the rest of what we're doing (with some exceptions) but I could eat a lot of shit so long as this stuff's going ahead.

This and our jihad on the Town and Country Planning Act.

Outstanding.

HS2's scaling back was a disappointment, but completing the in-flight phases, decarbonising the grid through doubled onshore wind, tripled onshore solar, and quadrupled offshore wind, expanding Heathrow, nationalising the railways, expanded housebuilding, new nuclear reactors, and massively expanded green energy infrastructure — plus this on top — will end up making this an outstanding government for infrastructure and transport.

Plus tons more smaller things related to road projects and individual lines.

I hope we do some new bridges too. I love a good bridge.

The cool thing about darktable is if you don't use it for a while you forget literally everything about how to use it.

Five hours in I've found my mojo with it again though. Going to smash through my protest photos with it properly tomorrow.
