The Sacred Heart Church, Vernon (#Connecticut). 1971-2019
The church was erected amid controversy, centring around its futuristic design. This towering seven-storey concrete pyramid (nicknamed โCement Tentโ and โSt Cementโ).
By 1980, concrete began crumbling & raining down on the congregation 85ft below. Despite repairs, the structure was condemned in 1997 and lay abandoned for decades.
๐โAny car enthusiasts out there? I photographed this old truck, with a tree growing out of it. Some kind of Ford, is my best guess. Somewhere in Belgium, a few years ago.
โ๏ธ๐ซก Steampunk Commander. An abandoned #ArtDeco control room inside an emergency standby powerplant, somewhere in #Belgium.
Navy blue panels line the walls, each set with analogue dials and levers. Two removed dials rest on the central desk, like top hats left behind by a Steampunk gentleman. Large windows and skylights fill the room with soft late-afternoon light.
๐ญIndustrial masterpiece. In the 1930s, this behemoth machine was, at the time, the biggest gas engine ever built! Now it stands rusting and abandoned inside an old power plant somewhere in Luxembourg.
๐ฆ๐ฅ Chรขteau Martin Pรชcheur (or, Kingfisher Chateau) was a stunning abandoned residence in France. Sadly, it was destroyed by a fire and now all that remains are photos and memories.
๐ธ๐ซ๐ฎ๐น This long-abandoned school sits in a small Italian village, empty since the 1960s.
Most rooms are empty or ransacked, but the top-floor classroom makes the detour in the blistering Italian summer heat worthwhile! The spectacular painted ceiling details, cute wooden desks, tiny chairs and retro wall map all make for a fascinating time capsule to explore and photograph.
๐ท The Explore Vs The Shot. Inside an abandoned spa complex in Japan ๐ฏ๐ต
I was being very cautious inside this abandoned glass dome, for good reason! Although nearly all the glass had fallen, there were still dagger-like shards hanging from some areas. I picked my route and crouch spot carefully, always being aware of the roof directly above me.
