The Sacred Heart Church, Vernon (#Connecticut). 1971-2019
The church was erected amid controversy, centring around its futuristic design. This towering seven-storey concrete pyramid (nicknamed βCement Tentβ and βSt Cementβ).
By 1980, concrete began crumbling & raining down on the congregation 85ft below. Despite repairs, the structure was condemned in 1997 and lay abandoned for decades.
It was demolished in 2019.
