Some highlights:
- Eugen has stepped down as head, his replacement is @mellifluousbox@mastodon.social (Eugen will continue as an advisor)
- Mastodon gGmbH and its US-based 501(c)(3) intend to transition to a Belgian non-profit and transfer their assets there
- Eugen has sold his Mastodon-related assets (including the trademark) to the 501(c)(3) for €1 million, these will eventually be transferred to the Belgian non-profit

Everything in your main "Home" timeline on Mastodon is there for one of these reasons:
-An account you follow posted it
-An account you follow boosted it
-The post contains a hashtag you follow
-An account you follow replied to an account you also follow
-An account you follow replied to itself
Nothing else gets in your main feed, it's just these things.
If hashtags are at the end of a post they are displayed in a smaller font below the post, which some people miss.

I started it because of the nasty stuff happening on centralised corporate social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc). These corporations promote "engagement" through algorithms that radicalise people into frenzies of bigoted hatred 😞
I'm trying to help people use alternatives instead of feeding the beast.

Do you wonder how some people's posts are longer than 500 characters?
It's because they are on servers that have higher character limits for posts (or in some cases no limits at all). More info at:

It now has an additional step where you switch off email notifications for new followers on the account you're moving to.
Apparently some people have been receiving lots of email notifications for new followers when they've transferred followers over. For some reason no one has raised this issue before, but it seems to have happened to a number of people.

Hey people who have ever moved their Mastodon accounts to a different server, I need to ask you something:
When you moved, did you get a flood of email notifications about your followers transferring to the new Mastodon server?
If you did get a flood of emails, how recently did you move your account?

Corporate social networks are trying to kill the hashtag because they want users to only discover things through corporate algorithms 😩
Mastodon and the wider Fediverse love the hashtag as it allows humans to retain control of their feeds 🥰
