Oh. I will disable quote replies.

Somebody quoted me out of context by saying "cyclists of any kind are horrid left-wing people".

But actually
I was quoting somebody else (British newspapers).

@FediTips@social.growyourown.services I invoke your knowledge to help me disable quote replies like this - Thanks!

I see someone's already suggested a method, hope that worked for you?

Another way to do it:

Log in on your server's website (for you that is
https://mathstodon.xyz ) and then go to Preferences > Posting Defaults, then select "who can quote" and select either "followers only" or "just me".

You will still be able to manually change quoting for each post individually, but this setting will be the default for posts.

Oh, that's a great tip.

As
@andrejbauer@mathstodon.xyz indirectly suggested, I don't want to not be quoted.

But I definitely don't want to be misquoted.

And perhaps this feature can't exist, either in practice or in theory.

But restricting it a bit like you suggest may sort of work.

Leaving it switched off by default and manually switching it on when you want to be quoted is definitely the safer option
