I am not sure about this to be honest. It's a difficult thing to test casually and I can't find any mention of it in any documentation.
There are cross-platform transfers possible (Mastodon to GoToSocial for example) but I've not heard of Mastodon to Pixelfed.
If someone knows better it would be really useful info!
