Some of the most frequent questions I've seen coming out of the #forkiverse are about posting just to theforkiverse.com vs. to the fediverse at large. Which tells me:

1. They might have been better off using Hometown.

2. Local-only posting could actually help Mastodon attract communities.

@lrhodes@merveilles.town I honestly don't know what I'm doing. I have no idea how to even post to fediverse at large. Teach us. If its just hash tags then I can personally say im just trying to figure out one's that are actually used. Ill sometimes type in something and it shows that hashtag has been used like 3 times. So im like ok cool so maybe I can curate new tags aa part of community building? But yeah just a sweet summer child over here.

The section at the top of the site marked "Quick Start" is especially suited to new people as it covers all the basics.

About the numbers on the hashtags, pay no attention to them, they probably aren't accurate and numbers don't mean much on here anyway.

thanks! couple questions.

1. somebody showed me how there is an app that allows you to have content from other specified servers show up in your own live feed. But is there a way to do that when I'm using my laptop/browser instead of the phone?

2. if you post a photo in pixelfed and then tag the post with some hashtag - does it show up to everybody who follows that hashtag or just the people who follow your account?
