Do you want to make your own Mastodon server? It's much easier and cheaper than you think, there are three ways to do it:
NON-TECHY - A "managed hosting" company does all the techy stuff for you behind the scenes. Starts from 5 to 10 euros per month all inclusive.
SLIGHTLY TECHY - Services like @yunohost@toot.aquilenet.fr provide a graphical interface for VPSs & home servers.
VERY TECHY - Manually installing using the official documentation and command lines.

@FediTips@social.growyourown.services There's also https://coopcloud.tech which is about the same level as #yunohost. I've been using it to run this instance and highly recommend it.

@FediTips@social.growyourown.services @yunohost@toot.aquilenet.fr For those very techy ones, perhaps my old guide how to upgrade Mastodon may be useful
It is couple years old, though, since I moved to @gotosocial@gts.superseriousbusiness.org
@gytisrepecka@social.gyt.is @FediTips@social.growyourown.services I'm trying to understand the details of how Mastodon and GoToSocial interact. Is this account you posted from your GtS account? What app do you use? How's do you find Mastodon content?

You can use GTS with Mastodon apps, and you follow, interact and discover accounts just like you would with a Mastodon account.
