Hairs were cut! Though it would be much more economical if we could just retract them.

Mine don't grow more than 40 cm (like a lion mane: have you ever seen someone to shorn a lion?), so it's over 20 years I don't cut them.
During the summer I wind them up, when it's cold they are useful to warm the neck.
