Given how much I depend on the #editButton, Mastodon should really change the 'Publish' button to be a "share my draft" button instead.
An Ottawa-based Ross who is inspired by people who have interests and pursue them.
Physics degreed, engineering careered. Enthusiastic about makerism, science, food, culture and art/design. Inordinately fond of breadmaking and chair design.
Trivialities, ephemera and daily activities.

Here's my #Introduction. I'm Ross and live in Ottawa, Canada where I've worked in various tech-research niches. Currently, a biz-of-tech consultant and spare-time maker/coder of gizmos, ideas and loaves of bread.
Been here for a few years, mostly tooting on tech-projects, cooking and mundane activities in my daily life, with an occasional sprinkle of poetry or art.
I have too many interests and probably find you interesting, particularly if you're enthusiastic about something.
The new #Springsteen hits pretty hard.
We could offer minor critiques but it's a pared down melody and strong lyrics in his classic style, if a tad more enunciated, and it's going to carry some weight.
One can't discount the power of relevant cultural touchpoints emerging in a timely manner to put some power behind a movement.
There needs to be, and will be, more of that.

A few recent #protestSongs stand out for me. A bit obscure, and more subtle in their lyrics. (They are from the first term after all)
One is by "Lake Street Dive"

The other from the lesser known band "The High Divers"

It's after 5pm and still light! π
Sorry, I might go on about that for a few weeks. It seems like a big win every year that the planet continues its orbit unimpeded.
Hmm: zsh or bash? Mac pushes you towards the former, but I usually resist.
I've always worked with the latter, but is it worth changing? I see some articles claiming zsh does some fancy stuff.
Not sure how much of my stuff will break. I've been avoiding all dev-related work for the better part of a year.
Maybe that's a good time to change?

Did a #Gimp install, which gave me version 3.08. The open file dialog seems to be terrifically buggy. Whew!
It opens an easy-to-find file okay, but try to customize it and it's rather messed up.
I'll have to go file some bug reports when I get through this.
#newComputer
Interesting - same open-file dialog bugs in GIMP appear in Inkscape too.
The bookmarks (favourites) behave strangely. Adding to them and attempting to drag puts one of them way off the window hanging off the corner of your display and inaccessible.
I was terrified to install the new #Blender (5.01) I've been using v2.93 for fear of new nasty learning curves, or broken workflows.
Turns out it's gone smoothly. One weird minor UI element (with "select all") but otherwise a big sigh of relief.
Weird that exporting a personalized theme involves digging an XML file out of the depths of your disk, yet there's a simple "import" button to pull it in. lol

Further to the #newComputer setup process, I've got all my files onto new machine, and the backups are running smoothly. Yay.
Working my way through apps and often getting newer versions in the process. Preference and theme export/import from old machine is not always clear of user friendly, but I'm getting there.

Huh - I've had a package "out for delivery" for the past four days. Maybe the driver is on foot, and stuck in a snowbank.
Yeah, I guess it's been a little while⦠Don't hold your breath.
