Here’s the response from the admin:

β€œWe are actually planning to disable the "live feeds" functionality on both mastodon.social and mastodon.online as it generally provides a poor method of discovering good posts and often has a lot of spam. (It's a new feature so we're testing it at the moment on mastodon.online.)”

My comment would be: It’s interesting to say that removing something is a β€œnew feature.”

Thanks for passing that on, interesting!

To be fair, mastodon.social is way way too large, not surprised that they find these features unmanageable
😦😦 The live feeds are designed for a decentralised network where people are spread out on lots of reasonably sized servers rather than a supergiant.

Hopefully this is just an option for an admin to switch them off if they want to rather than remove them from every server.

I’m thinking that this will motivate me to go to a smaller server.

Here’s the other part of the email (I ran out of characters before):

β€œWe do have the ability to opt people back into it, but we would like to understand how people still use it if they do need access to it again.”

Good luck with it
