The system used for verification (called rel=me) wasn't invented by Mastodon, it's meant to be a universal open standard.

In theory all social networks should have a rel=me tag on their profile links, which would allow people to easily verify by just linking to their accounts elsewhere.

Unfortunately Meta, Google, Twitter etc refuse to use rel=me, which makes it impossible to verify their accounts on other platforms.

Fedi platforms do support rel=me but most others don't

I'm not sure to be honest!

There are two ways rel=me can work:

-Link to your account on a platform that allows custom HTML code (like a website)

-Link to your account on a platform that automatically includes rel=me tags on its links

If you don't have a website, try just linking to your Mastodon account from whatever platform you want to try, and to your account on the other platform from your Mastodon account.
