I feel like, for example, gamersnexus has a large enough following to use an independent platform but for those just starting out and wanting to gain a user base, it will be a lot harder to get them to use a new platform and even harder to get sponsors.
It's a good initiative though

I think the idea @operationpuppet@mastodon.content.town is saying is even if you are mainly on YouTube, it's important to also have a PeerTube presence as a backup that YouTube cannot touch.
If YouTube is going to start altering/censoring/removing your videos without permission, then your viewers can always go over to your PeerTube to see the unaltered original version that you actually made.
