Servers are safer to use if a setting called "authorized fetch" (also known as "secure mode") is switched on. Ordinary members cannot activate it, it can only be activated by the server's admin.

When it's activated it makes blocks much more effective and greatly reduces unwanted interactions.

You might want to ask your server admin to switch it on. If they're unsure about it, they can find lots more info and step-by-step instructions at

As an end user, is it possible to check if authorized fetch is active on your server?

p.s. Years ago "Authorized Fetch" used to cause compatibility and/or resource problems, which is why it is switched off by default and why some longer-serving admins may be reluctant to switch it on.

However, nowadays it works well and some newer Fediverse platforms like GoToSocial have it activated by default.

Speaking personally I've had Authorized Fetch switched on for several years on my own server, and have not run into any problems with compatibility or resources.

Not as far as I know. You might want to ask your server admin as they will be able to check from their settings.
