Obviously I disagreed with his recent stance on server onboarding, but that isn't an attack on his overall achievements.

For me Eugen's best moment was in 2022 when he was asked to sell out by multiple VC companies but he said no:

"Rochko told the Financial Times he had received offers from more than five US-based investors (which he turned down)"

p.p.s. Also, @Gargron@mastodon.social changed the Fediverse's overall approach to onboarding by thinking about ordinary users instead of technical hobbyists.

Mastodon wasn't the first Fediverse platform, but it was the first one to aim itself at a general audience. JoinMastodon.org was a breakthrough because it assumed no technical knowedge or desire to self-host.

Mastodon sold the concept of the Fediverse to many people.

@FediTips@social.growyourown.services Parecia que bien al principio el Ipotxa, pero al final perdió los valores y se vendió al capital. Otra red que aun descentralizada, que no tanto, entre .social y la de Stux, que tienen casi todo mastodon ya no parece ni de #softwareLibre ni descentralizada, creo que va a ser el principio de su fin.

@FediTips@social.growyourown.services @Gargron@mastodon.social Mastodon ist, wenn man seinen PC selber zusammen baut, aber sich auf einer Instanz anmelden zu kompliziert ist. Es liegt nicht an den Instanzen. Es geht um Follower und Reichweite. Ohne Algorithmen können die nicht.

@FediTips@social.growyourown.services yes, it is working now. and I read that Cloudsource had issues earlier today with their servers so perhaps that was involved. In any case, I have now seen it, and it's a nice little video. Thank you.
