I've never used Hubzilla. Is it easy to use by non-tech people?
I think I've seen Hubzilla supports closed discussion forums. Is that so?
Also, you can create events? If so, it would make using separate social media such as Mobilizon unnecessary/superfluous.

Some people are great fans of Hubzilla but personally I found it a bit too complex. I think it's possibly meant more for techy people rather than non-tech people?
Mobilizon is dedicated to events and is aimed at a more general audience.
