The "mute" feature is very useful when somebody bombards a thread.
Is there a way to mute somebody only from a specific thread, rather than all their posts, @FediTips@social.growyourown.services ?

No, but there is an option to mute a specific thread entirely.
If you go to a post notification from the thread in your "Notifications" section and click on ⋯ , one of the options is "mute conversation".

Another option is you can mute people temporarily if you are using the website interface or a third party app that has this option. If it supports it, the mute window will have options for how long the mute lasts.
