why don't any discord mobile mods work with passkeys
why don't any discord mobile mods work with passkeys
- Aliucord doesn't give me the option
- Bunny/Kettu gives me this perplexing error message
@sodiboo@gaysex.cloud You installing them via lsposed or via patched apks? Passkeys probably depend on some secret bs in the original app that makes patched apks invalid to work with em
@jded@shark.c00lest-kats-on.ovh they... really don't have to be that way. passkeys are tied to an origin; either a website or an app; yes. but I can just . tell my password manager that the passkeys are valid for this app . like that's no big deal; likewise I can make a passkey valid for multiple websites (if they shared a login system).
and then . the sign in still don't works except in Aliucord which doesn't even let me try :(

@sodiboo@gaysex.cloud Yeeeeeeeeeeeah passkeys can be super jank in implementation like that, Aliucord probably just hasn't figured out how to get them to work in a way Android likes, same with the others, which sucks really but it's kinda what I see everywhere with passkey jank
Tangentially related, did you know that I cannot for the life of me get my Android web browser - Fennec - to work with passkeys? But the website thinks it is working with them, so the button to "enter otp instead" is greyed out? Actually discourages me from using passkeys

@jded@shark.c00lest-kats-on.ovh did you happen to be using a password manager before passkeys were implemented?
Android configures the password manager and passkey provider separately.
When updating to Android 14, passkeys were added to the operating system. By default, it will configure the passkey provider to be Google. The feature is new, after all, and users can change it at will.
The settings application only allows you to change the password manager and passkey provider together. It shows the password manager, and claims it provides "Passwords, passkeys, and data services".
This was very puzzling to me, when it then says that Bitwarden is my passkey provider, but gave me the Google passkey prompt.
To fix this state issue, unset Bitwarden as your password manager. Then, set it as the password manager again. This will configure the passkey provider.

@sodiboo@gaysex.cloud Looks like that applies to restoring backups too, even if the backup was taken on like A15, thanks for the tip!
