@cR0w@infosec.exchange aside from how creepy I think that is, how many false positives do we think will come from this?
@funes@infosec.exchange
@cR0w@infosec.exchange #portland has been exploring this idea too.

I heard about it through this recent privacy impact assessment done on the program by SmartCityPDX. I don't know specifically what triggered the assessment though.

@cR0w@infosec.exchange sadly the "edjahcational" postcards are not recyclable
@cR0w@infosec.exchange
@funes@infosec.exchange Yuk. It's so creepy.

A good argument against it is that people will stop recycling things. People should stop recycling things, so that they never get anything bad in the photos, that gets them in trouble.
(It is of course perfectly OK to recycle things with notes taped to them saying "HEY ASSHOLES TRY PUNISHING COMPANIES WHO DONT LET ME REFILL STUFF")

@schtaks@infosec.exchange That's just icing on the cake. The idea of literally photographing and cataloging everyone's recycling, to be used by whomever the startup shares that information with, is creepy as fuck.
@cR0w@infosec.exchange
@cy@fedicy.us.to @funes@infosec.exchange I'm not in Tacoma but I was already thinking about something like that preemptively. It's so creepy.

@cR0w@infosec.exchange @schtaks@infosec.exchange creepy AF and while they aren't starting with automated fines, I'm sure that's where this would be headed, as this kind of system was probably sold as a way to introduce a new "revenue stream".
@cR0w@infosec.exchange
@huronbikes@cyberplace.social @schtaks@infosec.exchange Probably. But I also want to know specifically how that AI startup intends to monetize the data it collects and creates by photographing every customer's recycling, "analyzing" it, and associating it with a specific residence. It's so creepy.
@schtaks@infosec.exchange
@huronbikes@cyberplace.social @cR0w@infosec.exchange barf...just throw it in the trash...scanning trash for fines now...burn it...burning fine...bury it in the cover of night...put it in your neighbor's...claim it wasn't yours...messing with someone else's trash/recycling is a crime...trash/recycling becomes new post office...
