I bet i can dent my wall with a cork launched by something made from a spring and my 3d printer. Sound fun!

I've considered that but i think the plastic might wear out? I don't know. But i already have a couple of 3" (7.5cm) torsion springs that hold about 7.5ftlb (10 joules) each. I had to change the arm geometry of my little catapult that was powered by one - it was snapping until i removed a bend and made it into a continuous radius

Close up on a red 3d printed plastic catapult arm that's broken. The middle printed lines are tearing away and the party of the arm that stops has a crack that goes almost all the way through. There's a torsion spring wound around a cylinder with a hexagonal hole. Unrelated to the spring strength there's pink tape wrapped around the launching side of the arm to keep the spring from breaking out of its grove. This was also improved in a later design

@RnDanger@infosec.exchange for that type of spring yeah, probably better to keep it metal.

With some work moving to a leaf type spring plus some gearing you could probably get some pretty decent force, but its probably not worth it when you have a few of those sitting around
