Came into Brisbane city proper today because it’s the ekka show holiday and they’re running steam-hauled trains on the exhibition loop.
So took the train to Bowen Hills, and when I got off the loco was literally passing in front of me o the other side of the platform. I wasn’t quick enough to get a pic of the loco, but here’s the carriages passing.

A little bit of train chasing, and I caught her just out of the city tunnels on approach to fortitude valley, at the exhibition station, and then at Roma street station.
Some video will follow after editing.
This is BB18-1/4 class pacific number 1089, the last mainline steam locomotive built in Queensland.
Unfortunately, of the two options they had for passenger carriages, they picked the fancy looking wooden carriages, not the wheelchair accessible stainless steel ones.

Once more around the loop and she’s back to do it all again.

I may have spent a while grumbling about the fireman; who decided the best time to fire the loco was just before entering tunnels with underground stations.

After leaving Roma Street station, the tracks immediately enter the inner city tunnels; other than a short section of open air at the end of the platform at Central (where I'm standing) this is several kilometres of underground.

So here's 1089 making her way through Central station.
