@InsiderTreat@infosec.exchange @cR0w@infosec.exchange @catsalad@infosec.exchange hi, AP proto nerd here. there are basically two kinds of quotes: actual quotes on the activitypub object, and just links to posts. some clients just try to fetch all links in posts as activitypub objects (similar to putting it into the search bar in the mastodon web UI) and render them like activitypub quotes. mastodon has some basic support for receiving activitypub quotes, but vanilla mastodon servers (at least without experimental patches) cannot send any activitypub quote posts, no matter what client you use; moshidon offers to put a link to a post in a new post though, and that's what you saw. this will probably change SoonTM in mastodon though, support for sending "real" quotes is in progress!
