In a huge victory for solar power, the California Supreme Court unanimously ruled that state regulators were given undue deference in deciding to roll back rooftop solar credits for homeowners, reversing an appeals court ruling that upheld the regulators' decision. #solar #California

☝ This is huge! NEM3 killed rooftop solar in CA. This could open the floodgates again.

Edit: To explain further. Prior to 2023, NEM2, rooftop solar customers were able to sell excess energy (like during the middle of the day) back to the power company at real rates. With NEM3 the rate was cut to almost nothing, making rooftop solar uneconomical. They said buy a battery, but that doesn't pencil out either. So, the thriving rooftop solar industry died. Most companies went bankrupt.

So having used regulatory changes to kill the competition, now the big players will move in to aggressively to corner the market and then use their monopoly to stiff homeowners.
