@cosmiclibrarian@universeodon.com @PhoenixSerenity@beige.party I had much better luck with a naturopath than with my family doctor, unfortunately. My doctor put me on antidepressants which, although they did get rid of my hot flashes, made my health much, much worse. I managed to wean myself off them, and until I could finally get to see an OBGYN, the naturopath helped me with supplements which decreased the severity of my hot flashes and severe night sweats.

Ultimately, HRT is what helped me the most, but it took me literally years before I could finally get them prescribed by an OBGYN. I suffered the whole time. It's appalling how menopausal people are disregarded and mistreated by the medical establishment.

@Shanmonster@c.im @cosmiclibrarian@universeodon.com @PhoenixSerenity@beige.party they are the worst, truly. I went back and forth to different psychs for years with incapacitating brain fog, and NONE of them mentioned that a woman in her late 40s might be in the menopause.

Eventually I asked my GP to try HRT as a shot in the dark and a few months later I'm fine. Glad your naturopath worked out.

As soon as i started having 'symptoms' I recognized them, read Christianne Northrup's ' The Wisdom of Menopause' then saw my doctor. That was about 30 years ago, and I still recommend the book.

I feel you there - had gone to one therapist on former GP recommendation - even though I knew it wasn't in my head. I was in perimenopause for a few years & it started in my early 40s. Doctors were treating me like everything was in my head. I hated being treated like a paranoid woman who was imagining things - when there was serious hormonal changes happening to my body. It took 2 ER visits & going anemic after bleeding for over a month, for doctors to take me seriously. I was then diagnosed with perimenopause. Several years after that, menopause hit. I was prescribed HRTs last year, after hot flashes had increased to point that it was interfering with my daily sleep often.

It should be. Shout it from the rafters! That book made me understand that there was nothing wrong with me and that there was a way to just feel better. If you have a spouse or boyfriend, he should read it too. There are changes that affect sex too, but there are also solutions for that.
