If my kitty wasn't chubby, I would be worried. This dude has been sitting on our neighbour's roof surveying the surroundings entire morning.

@Rajiv@infosec.exchange heh, my niece was recently worried about a hawk and her little dog. They canβt carry away an animal heavier then they, though they could attack it & eat it on the ground. But I donβt think they really like animals that would put up a big fuss & cat claws can be deadly.
@CStamp@mastodon.social I have seen screeching owl carry neighbour's chihuahua (sp?). so I always worry. thankfully no screeching owls where I live these days.
@Rajiv@infosec.exchange Screech owls are tiny, only 4.3-8.6 oz (121-244 g).
This suggests that great-horned owls are capable of picking up small dogs.

It would be a scary sight to see a dog being carried away...
@CStamp@mastodon.social this was 7-8 years ago and I relied on my neighbour to identify the owl species. I am not good at identifying anything except broad categories of birds. So I won't stake my life on it :) it definitely was an owl though. And to be fair, it apparently is not a common occurence. definitely caught those of us watching by surprise.
