average fediverse administration involves a series of bitchfights that could have been a calm, albeit potentially long and slightly uncomfortable discussion. they result in people getting genuinely hurt, often to the point of needing therapy. people are so keen to jump to dirty tactics like putting words in each other's mouth. nobody can trust anyone else.
i love being on the fediverse. i also totally understand why many come out saying the fediverse is a heap of shit.
the stability of your network depends on the ability of everyone to communicate fairly, and most critically, with those you disagree with. if you as an admin cannot handle this, run a single-user instance.
i'm so sick of seeing communities fall apart. i'm so sick of friends being forced to migrate because their admins can't take the stress anymore.
do better.
@ari@fedi.arimelody.space It's why I pretty much see the future of fedi infrastructure to be a handful of mega instances, a few dozen large instances, almost no small-med instances, and then micro instances run for single user or small family/friends things. The small and medium space costs too much both in money and in burnout for it to be long term sustainable.
