Hey! All my tofu friends! Do you like the taste of tofu or do you like tofu when it doesnβt taste like tofu? And whatβs your favorite way of cooking it?

@Caiotekit@convo.casa I like to cube it, freeze it, then thaw and press it to get the water out, marinate it in oil and tamari and spices, and bake in a bbq sauce or make almond tofu. The freezing gives it a chicken-like texture, pressing the water out lets it absorb the marinade. And I like it in miso soup π²
@sunumbral@beige.party Thanks π
. I did freeze mine. I sliced it thin and coated it with some cornstarch, garlic salt and Tabitha Brownβs Smoky and Sweet seasoning. Then I pan fried it. It still had a bit of tofu flavor, but when I mixed with the potato, onion, and cabbage dish I made, it suddenly turned delicious. Iβll have to try it your way, it sounds delicious.
@Caiotekit@convo.casa The bbq version was a big hit at Country Fair in the 80's, although Toby almost vetoed another tofu vendor π
@Caiotekit@convo.casa This is the book I was using
@sunumbral@beige.party Thanks! β€
οΈ I just looked at Better World Books and they have a copy for $5.88. I think I will order it. It got good reviews on Amazon.
@Caiotekit@convo.casa it's got some good ideas... if this is the book with the chocolate tofu frosting... it sounds kind of gross but it's amazingly good, people special ordered whole cakes with it all the time.
@sunumbral@beige.party Thereβs actually an updated version that I just ordered. Less oil and sodium, same recipes. So I hope itβs just as good.
