Turns out the 20mph limit in built-up areas of Wales 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁒󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 was great idea!

Two years on from the controversial policy, it's becoming increasingly clear that the doubters were wrong

@TCMuffin@toot.wales @purplepadma@beige.party there are a lot of people around my way that do not adhere to it…and often by some margin. I have lost count of the times I’ve been overtaken in a 20mph zone. It seems to bring out the aggression in some drivers. Hopefully they’ll get over it some day!

@helenclayton@mas.to @TCMuffin@toot.wales We live on the edge of a small Welsh town but still within the 20 mph zone, almost everyone speeds up as soon as they are out of the town centre. They go so fast that it is not pleasant sometimes walking up the hill and having them whizz by at such a speed

@purplepadma@beige.party @TCMuffin@toot.wales I can imagine. On Friday I was waiting at the bus stop in the village, in the 20mph zone, and a car overtook another at speed still the zone. They were going uphill with the brow of the hill on a bend. For what, to be somewhere two minutes faster?! This was in front of a school, albeit closed.

When we moved here I had two months left on my car insurance. I got a refund when I changed my address (enough to pay the admin fee
πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚). Safer and cheaper. What’s two minutes.

@helenclayton@mas.to @purplepadma@beige.party @TCMuffin@toot.wales The lack of patience is absurd sometimes. Been out on the bicycle before now and had people overtake me while I’m going at 25+ mph through a village, narrowly avoiding myself, traffic islands, oncoming traffic, or all of the above. All to save a few seconds here or there

@helenclayton@mas.to @purplepadma@beige.party @TCMuffin@toot.wales I quite like the setup they have in Singapore, where only a limited number of car permits are issued each year, and you have to demonstrate you have a genuine need for a car. UK seems hell bent on keeping cars as the primary method of transport for most people, to the detriment of the environment, safety, etc. All in the name of growth above all else. Total false economy
