Justin Derrick@Lazarou@mastodon.social I heard the same thing about Apple last week -- that if they cancel your Apple ID, all of your Apple devices that are associated with it are garbage -- no updates, no software downloads from the App Store, no ability to find devices or lock/disable stolen devices, no access to your data in iCloud, etc.
And Apple is the only arbiter of their Terms of Service, there is nobody to appeal to.
I've had Macs for 30+ years... (First one was a Mac 512k in the 80's.). This has me considering open hardware and an OS change to one of the BSD's.

It sounds like the guy only got his account unlocked because he spent several hours hounding them by phone, eMailed Tim Cook, posted on social media, etc.
