I hear in the news about Canadians cancelling their travel to the US. But really, how frequently do people visit our continental neighbours?

Canadians, how often did you go to the US before 2025?

(Boosts welcome)

@mpjgregoire@cosocial.ca @PapyrusBrigade@mstdn.ca FWIW, my answer was based on pre-COVID visits…

@mpjgregoire@cosocial.ca Canadians spent US$20.5 Billion in the US in 2024, and make up the single largest group of tourists. It definitely hurts them when we stop. A 10% drop is estimated to cost 140,000 jobs there. https://www.forbes.com/sites/suzannerowankelleher/2025/02/03/canadian-travel-boycott-of-usa-2-billion/

@mpjgregoire@cosocial.ca Whatever our individual numbers might have been, there are many chambers of commerce in tourist destinations who are very concerned. It's not just the #elbowsup Canadians who are staying away.

Here is one example from a Las Vegas TV station:

@mpjgregoire@cosocial.ca Around once or twice a year, occasionally more. I did have three trips down planned in the period February 2025 to March 2026 but I cancelled all of them. We were supposed to be in Seattle right now but instead we’re camping in Ontario.

@mpjgregoire@cosocial.ca I avoided the US during the first Trump administration, and then for most of the pandemic years. But in general, I'd visit once or twice a year.

@dan613@ottawa.place @NMBA@mstdn.ca @mpjgregoire@cosocial.ca The 97% drop in wine sales was particularly heartening (in fact, we now sell more wine to the former US than the former US sells to us).

Thats the sort of drop we need to be seeing across all sectors.

It would be 100% of the weak link fascist Alberta didn't end the blockade of yankee piss.

This sad Albertan completely supports a Canadian blockade of Alberta piss until the yankee piss is blocked again.
