I have an MEng in Electrical Engineering, and a 31 year career with the Dept of National Defence both in uniform and as a civilian. I was a generalist, doing systems engineering mostly for Satellite Comms, but also Health Info Systems, Systems Security, Business Planning, and Systems Architecture. When I retired at the age of 51 in 2013 I was one of 4 Senior Systems Architects for DND.

I'm here mostly for #canpoli, but my interests are varied.

How do N95 masks catch particles that are smaller than the holes?

1. Particles are sticky because of static forces
2. Large particles go straight until they hit a mask layer
Tiny particles get knocked around by molecules until they hit a fibre
3. Fibres are given an electric charge so that they attract all particles (the mid-sized particles carrying the SAR2 virus need this)
